About
The Summer of Pie is my attempt to make at least one different and hopefully somewhat original pie every week starting Memorial Day weekend and ending Labor Day weekend. I am not a trained baker (though I have been paid on occasion); sometimes things work only through dumb luck and sometimes it’s bowl cake. Feel free to ask if you need help with a recipe, I’ll be happy to assist as best I can.
Why? The short story is after living through a difficult couple of years, I’ve decided I should spend some time doing frivolous, fun stuff. And what’s more fun or frivolous than pie? Exactly. So enjoy, I plan to.
Hi. Nice work on this desert! Any way I can get my hands on the recipe?
Thanks, it was fun! And gigantic. I’ll try sending the recipe to your email.
What a great idea!! Now I’m off to feast my eyes on all the the glorious pie!
Thanks! And enjoy :-)
I feel inspiration trickling down to catch my attention! I’m assuming this pie-making business is also great for cheap (or maybe not so cheap?) therapy? Thank you for this blog, it might just kick my rear into high gear and get to baking. I’ve always wanted to, but honestly I’m rather cowardly.
Frivolous fun sounds like a game changer, how’s it working for ya? ^_~
Thank you!
Katherine
Haha, it’s working pretty well so far :-) It’s great fun to bake and share with everyone. And it’s very therapeutic to yell at food, it never complains. It sometimes catches fire, but it never complains. If you’re new to baking I recommend starting with some of the easier pies, like the pb cup pie, the fudge bottom pie, or the pumpkin pie. They’re actually some of my favorites! Good luck and let me know how it goes!
just wanted to thank you for the cinnamon roll pie recipe! i am a new blogger and didn’t know if it was ok to use the photo but phew i am glad you are nice. haha
You’re welcome! It turned out really well for an experiment. I don’t think most people have a problem with another blogger “reblogging” things from their posts as long as there’s a link back and some credit given. I do it all the time with recipes, even when I change them up. We’re all out here pretty much to share, and I’m happy that you liked my recipe enough to share with your readers! Although, I am nice :-)
I love this website! A mutual friend shared it with me. I want to let you know that I made your cranberry chess pie for Thanksgiving and it was adored by all. Yummm! Your directions were very helpful. I learned two new techniques, covering the fluted edge with foil before baking, and extending the dough beyond the edge and folding it back , which makes fluting the edge so much easier! Thanks for sharing your love of baking.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the site! And I’m happy to hear that the pie worked out for you (I loved it). Actually, I’m always relieved to hear that the recipes work for other people as I have this persistent fear/belief that everything that works for me is just a fluke ;-)
Hi Kate! I think your blog is great (even though I don’t make sweets) so I just nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. If you’ve already got this, well, then you must be doubly great. :)

Your Dad gave me this link. He was a dear friend of my mother’s. I love this idea!
Thank you! I’m glad you like it, it’s a lot of fun :-)
We liked checking out your page!

capownie = super hero brownie!? KA-POW!!!
Just re-listened to your interview on Half Size Me. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. The words “sensible” and “weight loss” (or maintence) are rarely used in the same sentence. I am a little under weight right now but feel “fat.” I liked what you said about being happy at your size. I want that. Thank you for the encouragement. Bless you.
